The Bortle scale measures the darkness of the night sky on a scale from 1 to 9. Our astrophotography park in Malawi is located in a remote area with Bortle class 1 - among the darkest skies accessible in southeastern Africa.
This means you can photograph objects here that are invisible elsewhere: the Zodiacal light bridge, the gegenschein, and the finest details in nebulae and galaxies. Your images achieve a depth and clarity that simply isn't possible under light-polluted skies.
Did you know? In most of Europe and the US (Bortle 7-8) only 10% of the stars are visible that you can observe here. Our location offers up to 5000+ visible stars with the naked eye!
